I really enjoyed this book. The Rain Wilds Chronicles were the first books I read by Robin Hobb and I couldn’t understand why people seemed to find them so underwhelming, now I see it was the people who have read her other work. A good start to a series. The main character is likeable and has likeable allies. The villain are just evil enough without being cartoonish. I will be going on to book 2 of the series and hope the series will get stronger.

Should spark enough interest in characters and kingdom to set-up a continues interest in Realm of the Elderlings in general and Fitzchivalry in particular.

The book in itself is a cross between an coming of age story, and introductory text of the six Dutchies royal family and it's workings and an introduction to it inner and outer enemies. Great beginning to a potentially very rich and enjoyable saga.

Expand later.
