What Members Thought
This was my second Austen novel, having read "Emma" while in high school. The plots of the two works seem remarkably similar, though the themes are more developed in this volume; since the Barnett family in P&P is relatively poor compared to its potential connections, issues of status and class abound. Marriage, money, love, wealth, gossip, intrigue... Truly the topics of the day in such circles. I confess that I have a limited tolerance for parlor room antics; I tend to prefer the darker tones
