2.5 stars rounded up because it was still addictively readable. I found myself quite resistant to the idea of Archangels in a paranormal romance. Paranormal romance is not my favourite genre. I don't mind romance in my urban fantasy but this..I don't know how many times the female love interest called Raphael beautiful but it was too many. I'm also not fond of the vampire-oozing-sex-appeal idea. And the ending ....no. ...more

I loved this story and was a little surprised to find out how much of a love story and romance it is. But I must say that I love it! LOL

Elena is a Guild Hunter (vampire hunter) and she falls prey, so to speak, to Raphael, the Archangel of New York. He hires Elena to hunt another archangel who has created carnage, killing people and leaving bodies all over the place.

This didn't really work for me.
I did like the pacing, it moved quickly, there wasn't a lot of unnecessary stuff but I never really connected with the characters and that is probably just me.
I liked the last 20%-it seemed a little more intense and interesting. Raphael grew on me I reckon, there at the end but mostly I just didn't feel invested in them. There was a great set up for the next book amd potential for the series and there were a few other characters and dynamics that I found interesti ...more

Angel’s Blood is the first book in the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh. Singh takes you to an alternate world where archangels, angels, vampires and humans co-exist. Archangel’s are at the top of the food chain followed by angels, vampires and finally the ever-mortal humans. The angels and archangels are strict capitalists and the archangels rule the world with a closed fist. It is a completely novel and interesting take on angels and archangels.

Elena Deveraux is a hunter and the best one of her kind. She is also a hunter-born, which means she can scent vampires and thus easily catch the rogues. But the job she has been contracted for by the archangel of New York, Raphael, is not her usual job. Catching a rogue archangel in the throes of blood-lust will be the most difficult hunt of her career and one that could get her killed. Failing is not an option, or else what the archangel might do to her would probably be worse than death.

Elena is also sucked into the deep blue eyes of one of the most dangerous archangels, that remind her of the sea and who smells like rain. Those eyes promise a passion, which unleashed, could be more than she could take. While Elena is quite prudent, Raphael is very blatant in his desire for the hunter, the one warrior woman he wants to possess. Raphael is your typical alpha male, whose arrogance knows no bounds, but his love and passion is also equally fierce.

There is more romance in the book than action, but when the action takes place it blows your mind. The constant hunt for the rogue archangel does not bore you. The chemistry between Elena and Raphael is burning hot and makes you want more. Elena intrigues Raphael like no one ever has. And this is the only woman who makes him a little human in all ways that count.

The final fight sequence will chill you to your bones and will keep you on your toes. You are constantly on the look out for what is going to happen next. The world building throughout the book was awesome. The descriptions of the angels’ wings were so brilliant, you’d wish you had a pair. This book also gives a whole new meaning to the concept of true love’s kiss.

Angel’s Blood made me laugh and cry. It made me want more. And it made me ridiculously happy. One of the best works of Nalini Singh. This was the third time I had read this book and still it had a tight grip on me. Anyone who hasn’t read this series, or this author for that matter is missing out. Nalini Singh is well in league with Ilona Andrews and Jeaniene Frost if you ask me. ...more

I'm not a fan of the romance genre. I find it nauseating and boring AF. The same holds true for PNR's. To be honest the first half of this book found me wanting to write a hate letter to the author. If I had kept reading the word beautiful I was going to start taking hostages. Yeah I got it, Raphael was beautiful. He had a sculpted body, was successful as all get out, powerful beyond anyone's comprehension, and sported a huge schlong. It didn't take a Philadelphia Lawyer to comprehend that state I'm not a fan of the romance genre. I find it nauseating and boring AF. The same holds true for PNR's. You can't have a panty dropping alpha male character without some sort of deep dark flaw that prevented him from getting to close to his chosen female ~~victim~~..err companion. **insert eye roll here**. It's damn good thing I'm tolerant because I did find a story towards the end. Well after they got everything out of the way that needed to get out of the way, like the sex scene that was seriously one of the most anti climatic (pun intended) I have ever read. It was an ok story, but it's nothing I would have written home about. Why? Well let's talk about that.

The MC Elena. I did not like the way she was written. She was no different than any other heroine in any other romance novel. She thought she was tough but deep down she was a pushover for an alpha male with dreamy eyes. Oh she tried to act the part, but it's not believable when as your pushing him away you talk about how your panties are dripping. Fucking bitch..Please!

Rapael, our Alpha Male was like any other alpha male I have ever read. You night as well stuck a sign to his head that read.."Me Tarzan, you Jane". I rule you woman..You must obey. **insert another eye roll here**

The BFF. She was your typical girl bff despite the fact she was supposed to be head of this really important organization. She was the silliest bff that I have ever encountered in a book. How the hell do expect me to take you seriously as the head of the Guild Hunters when you wear 5" fuck me pumps to work. Umm...no.

The Bad Guy - Yep, nothing out of the ordinary here. He goes on a killing spree, evades the good guys for a while, kill's some more, and then captures our good guys and puts the hurting on them..blah blah blah.

The only thing that saved this was the 2nd half of the story and the world building. It was a different kind of world building where (view spoiler). That is a bit different which I did enjoy. The 2nd half of the book concentrated less on the sexual tension and more on the world building.

I don't mind some sex in my books or even some sexual tension, but when it's the main focus that really kills it for me because in all honestly sex scenes in books are not all that imaginative. It takes a really talented writer for me to stop what I'm doing and say "Holy Shit, what just happened." I will continue on with the series because now I'm curious about the world, but it's going to take some really creative writing for me to give this series anything bigger than 3 stars. ...more
