What Members Thought

Second "reading" May, 2011
★★★★★ Five whole stars! I listened to this audiobook and it is still as riveting as it was way back when. The narrator, Susan Ericksen, does an excellent job in start of this futuristic New York cop murder mystery series featuring the infamous Eve Dallas, written by Nora Roberts AKA J.D. Robb. Check your library for the downloadable format - it is well worth it.

5/23/22 - 5/25/22 - 5 stars - Having read through Book #54 in this series, I'm still in love with it and wanted to revisit from the beginning. What an interesting listen this was, the second time around. First of all, Susan Ericksen is amazing as narrator, although she seems not as comfortable in the role as she does after having done it for years. But her voicing is the same, with clear variations between the characters and plenty of inflection and interest. What I found fascinating was getting

5 stars - The novel that started a 50 strong novel series, with a plethora of novellas to boot. A wonderfully written start to an exceptional series of characters in a fully realised world you can almost taste in the writing.
This review was written after several readings of the full series, so is coloured by my 60 odd book strong knowledge of the key characters.

She woke in the dark
The year is 2058. New York police lieutenant, Eve Dallas, is called to the murder scene of Sharon DeBlass. Sharon is the granddaughter of Virginia State Senator DeBlass. Sharon has been working in New York as a licensed companion. She died from gunshot wounds to the head, chest and genitalia in a world where guns are banned. Only serious (and wealthy) collectors have access to guns. The murderer leaves a calling card stating that Sharon is "one of six". Eve begins to track al ...more

What an amazing mystery series. It is well into 30 plus books and still going strong. The characters are great and seeing relationships grow and change is one of the best parts of the series. The other thing I really like about this series, is that even characters that are only in a few pages (usually victims) still get enough back story to make you care about them and wish they hadn't been killed.

I don't know what took me so long to start this series, but I am not a huge fan. Yes, its true and only after reading the 1st book in the series.
Who in there right mind wouldn't want more Eve and Roarke.
She alone is so kickass and take no prisoner, that you can't help but to root for her and his definitely fits right in with her personality.
He doesn't judge her, he just accepts her for who she is and falls in love with her flaws and all.
