★★★★★ Yes, five full stars! One of the best paranormal/fantasy books I’ve read this year! I wanted to read it faster, but real life got in the way. As it was, I had it planned for a future “buddy read” and peeked at the first few pages. Three chapters later I was e-mailing my GR friend to hint around about moving this one up in our queue; luckily, she agreed. Ha! Indeed, she finished the book before I did. This is the fi

“I’ve got to give myself one thing. Mom never did tell me not to steal from a dragon. No doubt she thought it was too flaming obvious to mention.”

I'm not a huge Paranormal Romance fan, but this one had such a popular rep I couldn't resist - plus, dragons. Pia Giovanni, a half-breed (Half-human and Half-Wyr) has to deal with the consequences after being caught stealing from a powerful pure-bred Elder Dragon. Hilarity, romance, and fun times ensue.

First, Pia. She's a fun heroine with spice and s

This book has been recommended to me numerous times...well, I finally got around to it and am sorry I didn't read it sooner. What an awesome book...from start to finish! I loved the grouchy Drago and the feisty Pia! This is an amazing new world I've stumbled on and I can't wait to get more immersed! ...more

A nice start to a paranormal romance series - 'Elder Races'. The book introduced a diverse interspecies universe, with lots of potential for extending the series.

I enjoyed the character of Dragos and his energy was nicely balanced by Pia. The development of their attraction into deeper feelings felt natural and you wanted them to get their happy ever after. The dark fey character of 'Trick' was well written and fun, a nice counterbalance to the testosterone fuelled sentinels.

Nicely paced, belie

#1 in the Elder Races paranormal series

This was a good start to a new-to-me series. Both main characters appealing, but I especially like Pia. She's a latent shapeshifter/half human, hiding among humans to stay under the radar. She really doesn't understand why, but her mother had kept her safe and insisted upon it. When she is blackmailed into stealing something from a dragon's hoard, she comes to his attention, which is both good news and bad news. Bad because he's ready to rend her limb from

Great read.
Pia is my type of heroine: independent and kick-ass, no shrinking violent or damsel in distress.

Dragos is alpha to the core and my first, if I recall correctly, dragon shifter.

These two or total opposites in most ways, except where it counts. They are both fiercely loyal and honor bound.

Thea Harrison does a great job building this fantastic world filled with these wonderful supernatural creatures.

I was on the edge the entire time trying to figure out where Pia fit in within this com

This is the first installment of the Elder Races series and follows half-Wyr Pia, who has been blackmailed into stealing from a dragon by her ex boyfriend, who by the way it a total ass! When Dragos realises that someone has gotten the better of him he is determined to find out who it was and how they managed to find his lair. Pia, meanwhile just wants to disappear and stay out of trouble from now on - the worst possible thing is for Dragos to find her. But when Dragos does just that she finds o ...more

This was a different version of dragons than Im used to. I liked that the dragons and other supernatural beings were commonplace and well known.
