I read this book when it initially came out and don't remember being particularly impressed, and anxious about the way I felt the love story was heading -- I never continued with the series. I finished my reread of it today knowing some of what is to come in the series. I found it much more engaging now -- clearly since I really didn't remember large parts of the story -- and I have gained a better appreciation of the less obvious hero in the intervening years.
