What Members Thought

I read Daisy Jones and the Six a couple of months ago. Usually I don’t read two books by the same author this close – mainly so I can spread out my enjoyment of their works. But, to be honest, when I put them both on hold, I didn’t realize they were the same author! Then, the holds come in when they come in . . . so, I have to read them whether I am ready or not. In this case I am definitely overwhelmed with Taylor Jenkins Reid goodness! Spoiled, even!

Edit: it has come to my attention that this as well as other books by this author so harm to Latinx individuals by perpetuating harmful stereotypes, so I’m removing this book from my favorites and would encourage others to look into what Latinx book reviewers have said about it.

A lot of times, books that span over a long period of time are hard for me, but this one was written in such a coherent way that it didn’t matter. And, I’ll admit, the idea of one person marrying seven times in their lifetime did seem a bit far-fetched to me at first. However, the story showed there really wasn’t another way for Evelyn and all of her marriages meant different things. Overall, this was a very lovely story.

Definitely worth the hype.
NO Spoilers ahead :'D
"I was gorgeous, even at fourteen. Oh, I know the whole world prefers a woman who doesn’t know her power, but I’m sick of all that. I turned heads. Now, I take no pride in this. I didn’t make my own face. I didn’t give myself this body. But I’m also not going to sit here and say, ‘Aw, shucks. People really thought I was pretty?’ like some kind of prig."

I don't know what to say.. This was too good!
The first book I read by Taylor Jenkins Reid was Daisy Jones & The Six, which I liked but never really loved. It was obvious to me that I would not like any characters and even though it was a good book, I read it without feeling connected to the story.
This was not the case with this story. Evelyn Hugo made a lot of mistakes and was very complicated, but I love her. She was beautiful inside and out and when she loved someone, she could do anything f ...more

Legendary actress/ sex-symbol Evelyn Hugo recounts her life story to be written as a biography following her death.
---
It's amazing how well the brain can recount so much, so vividly.
I LOVEd this.
All the while when Evelyn was recounting her story, I did not believe she was as bad a person as she insisted she was. Sure she was cunning and selfish for a lot of her life, but I didn't think she was much worse than that.
I got so invested in each of the characters (except for Evelyn, she was my least f ...more

I have read two Taylor Jenkins Reid books over this past year and I can safely say that she does a masterful job at writing flawed characters. The way she shapes their stories from start to finish reels you in from the very beginning. And The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was no different. There were times when I couldn't put this book down because I was too engrossed in Evelyn's story and her life and how everything was unfolding before me. I was worried I wouldn't enjoy this book as much becau

Though The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is completely different than the types of books I usually pick up, I still found it to be an incredibly compelling and complex novel. I will say that I much preferred Evelyn’s flashbacks to the present-day portions with Monique, but I am still glad it was written the way it was because it added another level of intrigue to the book.
