Disappointed. The novella is intriguing to view from a developmental point of view on Dostoyevsky's work and also in how he deals with something that had to be quite new at the time -- the psychological novel. The worries and neurosis/psychosis? of the main character seemed so steeped in 19th century Russian culture that it lost verisimilitude and relevance, which makes Dostoyevsky's later work that are so packed in universalities despite being tied to a specific time in Russia all the more amaz
