I loved the first book in this series, Halfway to the Grave , and the only thing marring my enjoyment was how it ended. I was therefore anxious to see what would happen in Book 2 and was already upset, having read reviews and knowing this book starts four years later. It ended up not living up to its predecessor for me, but I'm still a Bones addict so will be continuing with the series to the end, or until Cat becomes so annoying that she manages to outweigh the perfection that ...more

I'm hooked on this series. Cat is a great protagonist, kicks some serious undead butt and has a snarky, fun sense of humor and major parental issues to make things interesting , curses like a longshoreman and drinks gin like it was water. Her vampire beau Bones is....well, Bones is MINE! Hands off. I also like her new FBI colleagues. A nice bunch of tough, likeable characters with great banter among them like a good ensemble TV show.

I really WANT to love these books, I really really do, but the writing is just so uneven, I can't stand it. I love the main characters, half-human Cat and all-vampire Bones, and I enjoy their relationship when there is some sort of tension, but once everything is hunky-dory between them, this starts to read like bad wish-fulfillment fanfic. In fact, it's SO much like fanfic (in particular, SPUFFY fanfic) that I'd bet Ms Frost got her start writing Spuffy fanfic. (Spuffy = Buffy + Spike)

I saw this on the shelf in my library, and the author's name caught my eye and I was like, oh those books. I'd heard of this series before but had dismissed them as eh, not my thing. I skimmed the back cover description and went eh (again) and didn't think much of it. But because it had paranormal romance on the spine, I decided to give it a spin and boy am I ever glad I did! I wasn't even 200 pages into it, and I said to myself, this is going to be a favorite, and I was not disappointed by the

Second book in the series, as good as the first! Cat has a purpose now, with a shadowy government agency, and she's using all the dirty tricks Bones taught her. She's left him though, and her life seems pretty grim. I enjoyed the dialogue and action in this book, and the friends and soldiers she's gathering make this book a good read ...more
