This book is about a slave woman who switches her light skinned infant son with the son of her wealthy owner so he can live a life of privilege as a free man. It is also about Italian twins who come to town, and Pudd'nhead Wilson, a lawyer who is immediately branded as a fool as a result of one comment he makes shortly after arriving in town.
