I've been really enjoying reading the Miss Marple books with the Reading the Detectives group, but this one struck me as pretty weak. (Originally I gave it 3 stars, but, thinking it over, I've knocked this down to 2.) Once again leaving St Mary Mead, Miss Marple goes to stay with an old friend, Carrie Louise, after vague hints that she may be in danger.

3,5 stars - some good red herrings here, and the setting and characters are interesting. Since I still remembered the plot twist, I tried to see the story from an observer's perspective. It's really clever, actually. Very clear if you know the plot, but quite not obvious if you don't realize what happens.
Pretty neat for a Miss Marple case. Not too slow and the twist is surprising but still makes sense. I like the unusual setting too - a gothic house locat ...more

Nice, neat little Miss Marple mystery. Miss Marple is asked by an old friend from her school days to check up on the friend's sister, who is now a remarried widow, living at her estate.
