Manhattan Transfer is a book that brings you into the 1920's and takes you on a tour around the lives of the characters. It starts with the vernacular; Dos Passos writes like a poor young man drunk on the weekday as well as the up and coming rich widow on the upper West Side. Although I didn't necessarily like the 'story' of the book, it draws you in and keeps you there in the 20's where the volatility of life, love and economy are never quite settled. ...more
