Manhattan Transfer is a book that brings you into the 1920's and takes you on a tour around the lives of the characters. It starts with the vernacular; Dos Passos writes like a poor young man drunk on the weekday as well as the up and coming rich widow on the upper West Side. Although I didn't necessarily like the 'story' of the book, it draws you in and keeps you there in the 20's where the volatility of life, love and economy are never quite settled.
