A strange and fascinating set of characters that Dunn has brought to life remarkably well, suffers a little from the ending and the frame story. However, that doesn't diminish the fact that this right here is what I'm looking for from circus books. At times I felt a little sick in my stomach which doesn't happen very often. This book is a bit crazy. It's fascinating actually, a tale about a traveling carnival family, with all of their ups and downs. The craziness of the parents, who wanted to have unique children and even tempered the pregnancy with drugs and stuff. Just to have unusual kids to be the stars of their carnival!

Of course it's not a good idea. Of course it created one of the most dramatic dysfunctional families ever!

Wow! Definitely a memorable book and like NOTHING I've ever read. The writing was exceptional as she managed to make unbelievable characters believable and the unforgivable, in some cases, forgivable. I will be thinking about this one for a long time. ...more
