I am not normally a fan of vampire fiction, but did enjoy the humor and lightheartedness (if that adjective can be used for vampires!) of the characters and the plot.

I really wanted to like this book, but I really don't. I just don't like chick lit. The heroine is ridiculously shallow - she almost completely lost me in the first few chapters because she was so concerned with superficial crap like what kind of shoes she had on. And okay it got a little better, but it also makes me so angry - the heroine is consistently a shallow superficial nitwit, who seems to have confused stubbornness with "charmingly spunky" - and this is how so many chick lit books go. Betsy Taylor gets fired from her job as a secretary then killed by a car while trying to rescue her cat. Next thing she knows she wakes up in a funeral home. She can't kill herself and realizes she is now a vampire, but an unusual one who is immune to holy water and who can stand in the sun. Betsy is a bit annoying at times with how shallow she ...more

Comparable to the Southern Vampire novels by Charlaine Harris in the overall feel of the story.

Betsy didn't want to be a vampire, and she definitely doesn't want to lead a coup to overthrow the evil local vamp overlord, Nostro. All Betsy wants is to get on with her un-life and get her designer shoes back from her backstabbing stepmother. Unfortunately for Betsy, a rival pack of vamps believes her to be a fortold vampire queen and they won't take no for an answer.

i picked this book in an airport that did not have a bookstore with a huge selection of books. i have to say that i was laughing so hard, and with the exception of the ending, i enjoyed it so much that i had to pick up the rest in the series. what's not to love, an indestructible vampire queen, who's a ditz and doesn't fit the image of a vampire queen, and has a shoe fetish? i am still laughing about it while i am writing this review. ...more

Lighthearted fun, with characters that riff off of each other in a pleasantly constrasty way.
