Reading this was like eating at a buffet where everything tastes different but good.
Sandra Cisneros (San Antonio) kicked off her 25th anniversary of this book with a tour that began in Austin Monday night. Although she was contracting a cold, her remarks were warm, soft, humble, and generous from the stage at The Paramount downtown. I especially enjoyed her readings from yet unpublished work and her advice for young writers. What an icon!
4.5 Stars. Gorgeous and heartbreaking and hopeful.
What a gem of a book. I loved it.
I originally saw this in the multiple copy set room at my son's high school. Then, when we were going through my MIL's library, I found a copy of the book. She probably read it for one of her book clubs. I brought it home and eventually got around to reading it. I'm so glad I did. A lovely group of stories outlining the life of Esperanza during the year she lived on Mango Street.
