I actually went into this book thinking I would hate it. But the characters are well developed, the plot ties in so nicely at the end, and along the way, it's just really funny. Every character is a hyperbole, and I loved following all of them as they stumbled along.

There are some amazing set pieces but overall I found the book fairly repetitive. The back and forth between the main character and his mother felt like the same conversation over and over again.
This is the favorite book of many of my actual friends. Why couldn't I finish it? I couldn't stand it.

This is one of the most entertaining books I have ever read. The way the odd and dysfunctional characters all weave together with perfect comic timing makes it a wonderfully strange story. The author's personal story is even more tragic than Ignatius Reilly's squandered brilliance. Loved this book.
