I like any historical fiction based on the Bible stories, but this one so far is the most accurate- even though it still has some drama and romance that are of course fictional, but I can tolerate them, mainly because I love the protagonists especially Petronius- the antihero, no nonsense Roman guy. ...more

I heard many good things about this novel, also about some of the movies made using the book, but I was still impressed in a good way by it. I liked the drama of the two lovers, same as the tragedy of the early Christians. I also took it as opportunity to take a glimpse into 1st century Rome. That mighty Rome that ruled most of the known world with all the aspects of a modern metropola. For all these reasons and many others I believe this to be one of the best novels I read recently.
