It was ok. Lukewarm, that's how I feel about this short novel. The reader is inside the main character's head for most of the book, and it's not a comfortable place to be. He has made so many mistakes, he broods and ruminates on them, and at times I just wanted to get out of there and go somewhere positive for a break. The plot was winding and the descriptions came suddenly from nowhere like to just fill in the space. There are many authors who are better in descriptive writing. It should give you an image to your head but this time everything was in fragments. Not necessarily waste of time but wasn't at all impressed. I hope other works by Bellow are different.
