What Members Thought
This was a very slow thoughtful description of life in Sicily after unification. It just felt very slow and nothing happens and the pace just never varies.
The embodiment of melancholy and beautiful language. Not so much a particular story, more like a portrait of a fading era.
An important book that talked about Italy during the unification era in Sicily. However, the plot is so slow and the prose is too dense for me sometimes XD
I liked this book. It was interesting to learn about the unification of Italy through a Sicilian noble family. Definitely a sad story with many lost loves and dreams but I enjoyed it. However it took me a long time to get through and I wasn't in love with it. If you like history, you'll like this but there isn't a strong plot line so if that bothers you I would pass this one by. Overall impression is like but not love.
