This was fun and clever and I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as I thought I would. At first I was really amused, but after a while my interest waned. Sure it makes sense that sheep would be slow investigators, but the story moved too slowly, my attention wandered, I was not engaged.
The entire conversation about marijuana, aka "grass," felt awkward and dated, because no one here calls it "grass" anymore; I know the term "grass" was needed for the sheep to misunderstand, and perhaps this was a tr ...more

I'd give this 2 1/2 stars if there was a half star system available. I didn't dislike it, but it had some major flaws. This was a cute story about a flock of sheep who find their shepherd dead in the meadow, apparently murdered with a spade, and their investigation into the crime. Since it's told from the point of view of the sheep, who are very naive and take everything they overhear the humans say very literally, it can be sort of hard to follow. Translated from German, set on the Irish coast, and featuring a flock of sheep as protagonists, this debut channels Agatha Christie, Gary Larson (of "Far Side" fame), and "Murder, She Wrote" in a story about the murder of a shepherd and his flock's attempt to unmask his killer and bring about justice. The sleuthing sheep are a great conceit, and one that, for the most part, carries the book through the somewhat meandering and slow-developing story. For full review, see http://www.amazon.com/revi

This is a different mystery novel as it is told from the point of veiw of a flock of sheep who are trying to find out who killed their shepherd. I like the idea of a different viewpoint and found it fairly easy to tell the sheep apart. I didn't like the psychological parts of the book. I found them hard to follow and distracting from the min story. Part of this may be because the book was translated.

Wonderfully charming and well-plotted, as well as featuring some of the most appealing ovines ever. I'd love to see another Miss Maple adventure.

Hilariously zanny. The craziest mystery I've ever read and oddly enough, it seemed normal to have a sheeps perspective. ha

I didn't love the ending, but I did love the rest of the book. Looking forward to the next one!
