Not the sensationalist
story you might expect,
Geisha, A Life is actually
a gentle look at a world
most people know little
about. I was captivated
by this story.

A non-fiction memoir. Interesting in that she adamantly states that geisha are performers of the traditional dance. Try as I might to find a Western comparison, I just couldn't come up with one. Interesting, but not necessarily memorable. ...more

a book equally interesting in facts and details and as well good fictional-like story line. i read a copy translated in Bulgarian and i found the story a bit naive but as well beautiful and memorable characters.

Compelling and interesting look into life in the Gion. I found this much more interesting than the Hollywood-ized version which stretched and changed the real story and the real lives of the area.
