I've always found that Christie's massive diversions from her usual murder mysteries haven't worked for me. There's something about her "cozy" style that doesn't mix too well with spy thrillers. Destination Unknown was a quick read but also strangely boring and difficult to pick up again.
None of the characters stood out, either, but I always focus on the plot and mystery the most in Christie's books, so that's not really an issue for me. I'm happy to report that this time I also had no problems ...more

A spy/espionage story with a plucky heroine. The divorced Hillary Craven, whose only child has died, travels to a Morocco to commit suicide in her despair. Instead, British secret agent Jessop recruits her for a potentially suicidal secret mission. She agrees to impersonate the wife of a missing scientist, killed in a plane crash on her way to join her husband, in an effort to help Jessop find him. Her chance of surviving the mission is 100 to 1.

This is one of the more unconventional Agatha Christie's story. No detective, no murder mystery, and not even a clear plot. This was from the Cold War era, when Christie liked to play a bit with spy thriller. Not bad, but also not her strongest one.
Some of the plots are better, but the ending is quite predictable, although the characters are pretty interesting and the setting of Morocco is great. ...more

I thought that his might be a novel from Agatha Christie without a murder. This would have been an incited thing since I had read a lot of Christie's novels and in all of them it happens a crime, usually at the beginning. In this one, the murder appears in the last pages, but nevertheless the mystery of disappearing scientists is fascinating to follow.
