I can see why this one really connected with readers when it first came out - the characters are so vivid, and their wildly over-the-top natures make for a very entertaining story. Plus, if you're someone who comes from the food-is-love school of thinking, it's a heartwarming validation. A fun, fast read that makes a nice intro to magical realism.
