WTF do you turn to after reading something like The Waves? I guess I have the Super Bowl later today, but as far as picking up something new read, that's going to be tough. What Woolf accomplished with The Waves is one of the truly great books in my lifetime reading experience. She achieves, to my mind, the highest pinnacle of what language can accomplish in fiction (and poetry). I remember being forced to read this at university ( English major 'de reguire) and being a callow youth , simply didn't appreciate the mastery of her beautiful and evocative scenes. At 18 one just doesn't have the world experience. So it's with a humble head, I 're read and wallowed blissfully in this lovely , artistic and yet very sad series of vignettes . Highly recommended to just absorb, read slowly and not try to explain.
