I will say this first: I liked To the Lighthouse much better. Also, I made the mistake of reading the jacket first so I had an idea of the plot, which is always a mistake with Woolf, because it's really more about the experience and the flow of the writing than what is actually happening.

Try as I might, I could not get into this book. The majority of the characters were wholly unlikeable. The plot, if you can even call it that, was bland and unimaginative. And the writing was erratic. Woolf's writing style is flighty and convoluted. I found myself reading without absorbing a word. Perhaps, I just find it difficult to sympathize with the plight of the aristocratic English. For me, this book was flat and emotionless.

I wasn't enthralled by it, but I did like it. I think I was more interested in Septimus's story line than Mrs. Dalloway's though.
