I really enjoyed this story about two people, Dexter and Emma, who have a semi-one night stand that turns into 15 year friendship and then some. I liked that the author told the story by looking at the state of their relationship on one day a year. I found this approach to be very creative and a great way to tell a story that takes place over a long period of time.

I enjoyed the story although at times the writing was a little strange for me. It was heavy on British slang and references and even though I consider myself something of an Anglophile, there were times when I was completely lost. For example, one of the characters is described as having a tendency "to hold every conversation as if she’s addressing the Bank Holiday crowd on the sea-front at Weston-super-Mare." Huh? A love story told in snapshots of one day for each year. Very readable but the concept means we only really learn about the two main characters and don't get to know any of the other people featured which leaves it a bit shallow. I'd still recommend it as a beach read.

Wonderfully written. The author had a really interesting concept of writing each chapter as the same day a year later so the reader gets snapshots of the characters' lives but greatly detailed and intricate snapshots that are fully linked together as to allow no confusion over the breaks in time. A bit sad and melancholy at time but I was definitely wowed by the overall book.
