Short, sweet, and beautiful.
This was the perfect choice to thumb through during my days in Rome, and to make me miss all of Italy as we flew away home.

Not a lot of substance here, but it's a deft skewering of English middle class values at the turn of the last century, although Forster needed to work a little harder at removing the mote in his own eye in regard to Italians!

I haven't read Forester in a while and I had forgotten how great he is with dialogue. The conversations in this book whiz by. I think it was his first novel and you can definitely sense that in terms of structure and plot. It's not as tightly written as A Room With a View, but I enjoyed it.

Didn't feel that emotionally attached to anything about this. I read it in a couple of hours and easily forgot everything. I was surprised by the difference between this and Maurice.
