The role of women in society and the workplace in Japan has changed significantly in the last 20 years as this mystery novel aptly demonstrates. As a mystery novel this one is most unusual compared to other Japanese thrillers. That said, the ending is surprising.

Noir from a feminist perspective. Four stars only because like any mystery novel, the end is predictable. It was worth the trip there.
