Review on the fly. I thought I had read this many years ago, and I'm certain I started it since the first 50 pages or so seemed familiar. But then things started getting different, and it was really a true gothic treat. That said, calling the novel "gothic" doesn't do Shelly justice, since Frankenstein at its heart (horrific murders aside) is a novel of ideas. Shelly can also be a wonderfully descriptive writer. Always wanted to read this short story around Halloween. Glad to have read the original. Feel like it would have been better edited down shorter.
