Oh man, what a slog. Not bad per se, but after two or three great first chapters I slowly started to lose interest. I managed to read about 2/3, and although some people think rating a book is bad form if you haven't finished the whole thing, I happen to think I read enough to know whether I liked it or not. I may read the rest at some point, but right now I'm done and will check out the Wikipedia plot summary. Too bad, since I really liked du Maurier's writing.

The characters are like mice in a bag that’s slowly getting tied tighter and tighter.
As others have noted, My Cousin Rachel is not a novel with an unreliable narrator and seems to draw upon writers like Wilkie Collins, it is possible to envision where writers like Gillian Flynn got their ideas for character perspective. In addition it was refreshing to read a novel labelled Romance that did not contain the modern day obligatory bedroom scene, but left the romance to the reader's imagination. du Maurier also kept the plot suspenseful to the end leaving several possible scenarios

This was so good! Jealousy, mystery, deceit abound as a grand estate and the future heir’s life hangs in the balance. I can see why this novel has stood the test of time and I will definitely read more by this classic author. Apparently there is a movie too, I will search for that.
