I wasn't really planning on rereading this except it's in the running for the best book in my group's Round Robin. I had liked it before but wasn't really super excited about it. One day I was fishing around for something to read on my breaks at work and decided I might as well so I downloaded a free copy and got started. This was the first long (500+ pages) English literary classic I read on my own. I read it as part of an intensive author study the summer before my high school senior year. We were required to read 3 novels by a selected author, my choice being George Eliot. Naturally, I read the shorter novels, Silas Marner and Adam Bede (the poor man's Tess), first.

Finishing this book is giving me a huge sense of accomplishment. While I love a classic British novel and in the end I really liked this story, it is dense and easy to put down and if not for book club I'm not sure I would have finished it. I gave it four stars though because while I said it was easy to put down, I always enjoyed it while I was reading it.
