My first Murakami, and I thought that it was great. The book was easy to read, complex and very gripping. I became caught up in the various characters and trying to figure out what was going on.

It took me a while to get used to Murakami's style and feel I had a clue to what he was trying to say, but once I began to understand, I became enchanted with this novel.

Worth picking up even if you're not the type who normally goes for post-modern fiction. What I love about Murakami is that he captures the weirdness and the amorphous quality of highbrow fiction but makes it deeply accessible - he has no pretenses or desire to play the "I'm Smarter Than You" game. Instead, you just get something that's beautiful, lovely, and changes the way you think about your own life a little bit.
