And death shall have no dominion.
Dead men naked they shall be one
With the man in the wind and the west moon;
When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone,
They shall have stars at elbow and foot;
Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.

And death shall have no dominion.
Under the windings of the sea
They lying long shall not die windily;

NEVER SHALL I FORGET that night, the first night in camp, that turned my life into one long night seven times sealed.

Never shall I forget that smoke.

Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky.

Never shall I forget those flames that consumed my faith forever.

Never shall I forget the nocturnal silence that deprived me for all eternity of the desire to live.

My work is never done
This book is Excellent because it tells you in Depth just how Hitler was able to lure people into a false sense of security and then trap them so they could not leave the concentration camps. It tells of the Horrors and the pain he and his family had to go through.

It made me wonder why Humans have to be so hateful and Ignorant. And how could a god who claims to love us allow such a thing to happen?

This is such an eye opener. I couldn't put it down, but had to at times. It makes you look at life with so much more appreciation and reverence. I am glad that I read it. And I know that the author has been criticized for various reasons and his account has been questioned, but I have no doubt in my mind that the magnitude of the horrors he describes are real. ...more

How can one 'like' a book about life in concentration camps during the Holocaust? The star rating is actually completely irrelevant - this is one of those books whose importance may actually eclipse its literary merit, but fortunately, it is also beautifully written. ...more

I am in a book club and recommended this to the club. This was a gruesome, but telling account of the atrocities during the holocaust. Mr. Weisel's goal during this time was to stay alive and then write about it. I am glad he did on both accounts. ...more
