This is a beautiful, beautiful book!

The Lady and the Unicorn is a historical novel, set in 15th century France. As Jean Le Viste commissions painter Nicholas des Innocents (who is anything but innocent) to design six tapestries with battle scenes, Jean's wife ask Nicholas to make something else. So he suggest scenes of a lady seducing a unicorn.

This is a fascinating book, because it takes a famous medieval tapestry and shows its creation through many different viewpoints. It is a well-researched and very believable fiction that is based in a lot of the reality of the tapestry's time period, creation, and people who could very well have been involved in it in real life (as some of the characters actually were). ...more
