What Members Thought
My first Graham Greene read, I thought that the writing was excellent and the characters both interesting and well-developed. However, religion as a theme took over the book about mid-way through, turning it into a much different novel than I had expected. This outcome wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but it did change the whole point of the book. I understand that Greene's Catholic influence permeated his works, but I must say, that the end result for this book may have been hurt by it.

Another great example of an intricately defined tale told from start to finish in few words but conveying much more. Also told more or less in chronological order with a minimum of characters. How has the modern generation of writers not been able to do the same?
A particularly excellent book, made more so with Firth's well-done narration - he brings a life to words that would have seemed a bit flat on the page. A thought-provoking set of ideas, but refreshingly without the ponderousness that would normally accompany them.
