What Members Thought

One of my favorite books when I was younger. The writer's voice is so gentle as he describes the competitive nature of friendship and how the main character longs to be someone that he is not. Worth a re-read.

All through high school and college it seemed like every English class except for mine had to read this book. Of course I was ecstatic. A year and a half after college, I guess I missed it, I decided to read it. I'm glad I wasn't forced to, because I would have hated it if I had been, as it is it's a decent story. I didn't love it, but I liked Phineas.

4* for style, 3* for content. I'm not normally interested in the hijinks at a boy's boarding school. I didn't like the hero/narrator. And ... The event at the end was there for shock value, and not an event arising organically from the narrative. Recommended only if you need a book to do a report on for school.

Very well written, although I didn't really care about any of the characters or what happened to them. The only character I felt sympathetic to was Leper.
