I liked this book but didn’t love it. However it’s the first of a series and, because I’ve read and loved other books written by the author, I’m thinking it gets better. I really enjoy magical realism done well and I feel there are seeds here.

Others in the series are available on audio, and I couldn’t find this one in that format. We’ll see how the series plays out.

Don’t read this if you’re hungry. Or a diabetic. The food and chocolate descriptions are luscious!

This book grabbed me from page one and held on until about 2/3 of the way through. Then, at least for me, it just petered out. There were too many unanswered questons and characters that seemed three-dimensional in the beginning, suddenly seemed to become wooden and flat.

So far, wonderful......66 pages in
Who came first? Joanne Harris or Sarah Addison Allen? Same touch of not-quite-magic..... Loved this book.
