I've attempted to read Jane Eyre several times in my life, but this time the book held my attention and I was surprised how much I liked the story. I didn't think much of Mr. Rochester (I need to read Jane Steele), but I liked Jane's independent character.

This is for the classic audiobook version of Jane Eyre as read by Amanda Root.
I love Amanda Root's reading of this novel. She does all the characters so well, particularly Mr. Rochester whose character she managed to capture better than anyone I've ever seen on screen or stage. Her reading of his dark, wryly humor and his odd flirtations of "witch" and "elf" with Jane were particuarly good as I found them to be the most endearing characteristic of any cast member I've read in any novel. I was not overly interested in Jane's story of growing up in a girls school and then becoming a governess. It just didn't interest me as much as Jane Austen's books do.
