What a brilliant book.

I read part of this in a cafe, and a fellow coffee-drinker asked me what my book was, and then proceeded to ask me what it was about. In one way, this isn't really a book about anything, in the sense that there's not a great deal of plot. Very little happens in this novel: people go for walks; they eat dinner; they sit in boats or suchlike. It's run-of-the-mill days in a run-of-the-mill world. she murmured, sticking her needles into the stocking. And she opened the book and began reading here and there at random, and as she did so she felt she was climbing backwards, upwards, shoving her way up under petals that curved over her, so that she only knew this is white, or this is red.
