What a brilliant book.
I read part of this in a cafe, and a fellow coffee-drinker asked me what my book was, and then proceeded to ask me what it was about. In one way, this isn't really a book about anything, in the sense that there's not a great deal of plot. Very little happens in this novel: people go for walks; they eat dinner; they sit in boats or suchlike. It's run-of-the-mill days in a run-of-the-mill world. And all the lives we ever lived
and all the lives to be,
are full of trees and changing leaves,
she murmured, sticking her needles into the stocking.
