So i definitely like this author and will probably read more of her. This book was mostly set in the early 60s during the Bay of Pigs and Cuban Missile crisis. I found it fascinating the way the author had so many characters reacting to these very important events. The main character who is a wealthy Cuban young woman had to leave for Florida because of castro. And there is also an American senator who is very close to Kennedy. There are a few other Cuban exiles who are trying to put down Castro ...more

What a powerful story! It’s a follow up novel that best read in order but could be read as a stand alone too. This is one of those epic historical fiction novel you would love to go on and on, but ended in a perfect way at the perfect time to avoid that feeling of will this ever end. It leaves you wanting more. More Beatriz, more Cuba, more Perez family. Great novel to end my 2018 reads with and hope the will be more of the Perez family in the future! Shelves: 2020, format-audiobook

Got to love Beatriz—brave, smart, hard-working. She is so much more than her bewitching looks and she uses all she has to help her homeland, Cuba, after needing to flee in exile. I love how she matured over time and due to the variety of circumstances that befell her and her family. I enjoyed reading about this time in history and her perspective.
