Mexican Gothic is considered a modern day gothic horror novel. The story's central character is Noemi, a beautiful and wealthy young woman who goes to visit her newly married cousin, Catalina. Catalina asks for Noemi's help in protecting Catalina from her husband, Virgil, whom she believes is trying to poison her. Noemi's visit with her cousin leads her to unravel a strange mystery among Virgil's family and its connection to the house in which they live.

I did finish it and there were parts that briefly held my interest, but on the whole, it seemed more gross and disgusting than scary. In this type of story I always tend to think: "why are you being stupid and why don't you get the hell out of that place."

I put off reading this because its labeled as horror. I don't think I would define it as such. Its a great Gothic mystery full of twist and turns and I really liked it.
