The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line is the first in a hopefully infinite line of Veronica Mars crime novels. Like the recent movie, this book is written for fans. While you don't have to be a die-hard Kickstarting Marshmallow to enjoy it, the book primarily assumes you've seen the TV series and the movie in terms of giving main characters very little background information.

This story reads as another film or a double episode as a couple of Spring Breaker disappearances send Veronica all over Neptune w

While I primarily picked this up as a way to sustain the nice little bump of warm memories seeing the movie brought forward, this doesn't quite have the same zip. It's a strong story and Veronica's true to her screen persona, but the dialogue is missing the clever patter that's become one of the hallmarks of the series. Part of it is due to the smaller roles Veronica's typical sparring partners take here, but overall the tone is significantly more sober and serious. ...more

Great one to listen to on a long drive. Kristen Bell is a great narrator!

Mystery aimed at young adults. Books apparently come off of a TV series and a movie. Like that it has a strong, female protagonist. Find it a bit of a stretch to believe that after investing the time/money in Stanford and Columbia law she decides to return to her hometown to be a PI - but I suppose this has actually happened. A couple of nice little twists. Quick, fun read.

An absolute must for Veronica Mars fans, even better as an audiobook read by Kristen Bell! All our old friends make an appearance (sometimes too brief, but always natural to the plot, it never felt forced): Mac, Wallace, Logan, Cliff, even Dick! All that, and a great twisty mystery too - I absolutely had no idea of how it would be resolved.

I listened to the audio version, read by Kristen Bell. Like watching Veronica Mars. If you liked Veronica Mars, this is a fun, quick one.
