What Members Thought
I was looking for something light, non-demanding and fun. This was it. the rules of the title are taught to the three siblings of the story, who proceed (of course) to break most of them, or try to find ways around them. There is more about relationships and love than the title would have us believe, but it's also about family, and choices. Good holiday read.

What a lovely prequel to Practical Magic. This is all about the eccentric aunts -- Franny and Jet, from Practical Magic, their growing up in New York, summer with great aunt Isabel, who owned the house they now live in, the curse on anyone they love, and their brother Vincent. Alice Hoffman's earnest, direct and sweet writing always leaves me feeling great.

This is the prequel to Practical Magic, a novel I read over twenty years ago and really loved (the movie version with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock is fun but doesn't do the book justice). I listened to The Rules of Magic on audiobook, which was very well narrated and thoroughly enjoyable. The book did tend to drag on in places, the writing is at times a bit over-flowery, and there is enough heartbreak for several lifetimes...but all that said, I was really sad to say good-bye to the characte
