Not as good as The Paris Wife but only because by this time Hemingway is a complete dick. With the three wives after Hadley, he was already conducting an affair with the next one before the previous wife knew it was over. So hard for me to feel any excitement or happiness for his new relationship with Martha Gellhorn (Wife#3). However the story of her career itself is very interesting. Another solid book by McLain. This one focuses on the life of Martha Gellhorn, who, at one point, had been married to Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway is an important part of the book, but it's Gellhorn who really shines and is the center of the story. Gellhorn was a war correspondent who loved adventure and being at the forefront of the action. Her ambition, particularly in the same field as her husband's, became an issue in her marriage.
