I can certainly understand why this book topped so many of the Best of 2017 lists. The one thing that I have learned about reading Ng is that she is very thoughtful and precise when it comes to her storytelling. I feel that every word is thought out and that she painstakingly ensures that the details of her story fit together so that there is no opportunity for implausibility. In Little Fires, Ng uses words such as embers and spark to weave the incendiary details of the tale that is unfolding. N
