I really enjoyed this book. Even more so because it was based on a true story. What an amazingly brave man who survived during a horrific time in history. It took a few chapters to grab my attention, and almost put it down, but so glad I didn't.

This is a WW II story that has a bit of everything. A huge thank you to Mark Sullivan for this research. I've never read a WW II story from this side of things, mainly Italy. The work done by Father Re with the help of Pino Lella to help get Jews through the Alps to Switzerland is remarkable; one of my favorite stories I've ever read. This one is a lot like Schindler's List in that it deals with the life of a real person who played an important role in World War II but it is presented as fiction because the author chose to include conversations between characters that probably or did take place but the exact words and events have been altered to make a good story. Knowing that the main protagonist was real and he did most of the things that are chronicled in the book makes it a more compelling read.

Would have given it 4 stars, as it was an exceptionally good account of one young man's incredible life during WWII. However, the writing was very juvenile and made it seem as tho this was intended for grade school readers. A bit too wordy in places that made me skim over them to get to the heart of the book.
