Too long Stephen King, too long. I read this for the sci-fi and horror, not for an icky ~*~romance~*~. Let's look at what he does really well though: his depiction of friendship is great, how the three friends play off each others strengths and flaws and how these relationships are later echoed with Eddie, Jake and Detta.

Really loved this one best of the series so far.
I begins with resolving the riddle game cliffhanger from The Waste Lands.
Then Roland tells the tail of what happened to him after he beat Cord was he was a teen. This story was great and tells the story of Roland's for Susan that had been mentioned in previous books. It sort of mixes fantasy, western and post apocalyptic in it's setting. Roland prevails but at great cost.
The final section returns to the Roland, Eddie, Jake... and the others see a ...more

Here we are: the volume that made my Dark Tower journey come to a screeching halt last time around. Partly because other stories started to interest me more, partly because Wizard and Glass tired me out. It's not bad per se, and I understand why a diversion to Roland's past is beneficial for character development, but why did it have to be so damn long? It breaks the flow of the series, and I just couldn't bring myself to care about teen love. All the things I did care about w ...more
