Another random library choice which turned out to be a winner. It is number 13 in a series, but that didn't make any difference to the story. It is fast paced, kept me reading (except for a couple of chapters where it really got a bit stupid...how can some characters be SO dumb you ask yourself and put the book down to do something menial around the house......) then the pace picked up again until the end. I always appreciate a nice homage to Conan Doyle, and fans of thrills and chills will enjoy a climactic chase scene that's the stuff of nightmares. I'm still hoping that Pendergast will shake off the malaise that's been plaguing him for the last few entries and rejoin the realm of the living, but he's still got work to do.

I don't usually like the Sherlock Holmes originals or takeoff. This book is the latter, but the parallel of The Hound of the Baskervilles and this more contemporary mystery was intriguing and I enjoyed it.
