Solid read on audio about the relationship between a 66 year old news teller and his 10 year traveling companion, who had been kidnapped by Indians 4 years earlier. The gentleman is taking the girl home back home to her family. Their travels are interesting, and the context of how the news was delivered during that time is unique; however, overall, I expected so much more from this book based upon the reviews.

Just lovely! A peek into the a rugged, challenging and sad Texas wilderness after the close of the Civil War. Well crafted characters, a compelling story and wonderful descriptions of the Texas setting sucked me in and kept me reading despite the sleepy pace of the novel. I will definitely seek out more from Paulette Jiles! Highly recommend!

Excellent book. I might have to change my rating to 5 stars.
